Promoting Environmental Responsibiltiy at VanCity Credit
Union
Update, July 25, 2006: A
message from the Board of Directors has indicated that Vancity has
discontinued promotion of this offer. Another successful "one
less" campaign! Vancity, a generally progressive credit union, has introduced many programs in recent years to encourage environmental sustainability. So it may come as a shock to learn that they recently introduced a promotion to reward people who purchase more gasoline. And ironically the program is part of their "enviro" Visa credit card. If you use your "enviro" Visa credit card this summer (2006) to purchase local clothing, organic groceries, a bicycle or even a bus pass and don't pay your balance at the end of the month you will, of course, be charged interest. However, if you use your credit card to fill up your SUV with gasoline, you won't be charged interest on that purchase. Is this something that an "enviro" credit card should be doing? If you don't think so you can contact VanCity at: Richard Robins, Product Marketing Manager - VISA
