Boycott the "Axis of Weasels"
General Electric CompanyChevronTexaco

3 Reasons to Boycott Esso:
1. Esso has been identified as one of two oil companies most likely to benefit from the war on Iraq ( Wall Street Journal, 13 Jan. '03). Even the US Administration now admits that this war, which killed thousands of innocent civilians, was primarily about oil.
2. Esso (known as ExxonMobil in the USA) is the oil company closest to George W. Bush. Esso paid the Republicans $1.2 million up to the 2000 elections.
3. Esso has consistently questioned the accepted scientific consensus that burning fossil fuels like oil is causing global warming. It is still misleading the US public and funding 'climate skeptic' industry front groups to lobby on its behalf.

3 Reasons to Boycott General Electric:
1. General Electric was one of the top donators to George W. Bush's Republican party ($1.1 million in 2000).
2. General Electric makes weapons that were used in the war with Iraq (jet engines and cannons).
3. General Electric supplies components for the manufacture of landmines (one contract worth $667,000 alone). Many countries, including Canada, have signed a treaty prohibiting landmines. But General Electric continues to ignore the global consensus against landmines.

3 Reasons to Boycott Chevron/Texaco:
1. Listed as one of the top two oil companies (along with ExxonMobil) to benefit from the war with Iraq (The Wall St Journal, Monday 13 January 2003).
2. Texaco has a horrible record of destroying rainforests and polluting native communities in South America.
3. In the top 20 donors to the Republicans in 2000 ($800,000) amoung global consumer brands.  Former Chevron Director, Condoleezza Rice, is now National Security Advisor in the Bush Administration.

But you don't have to stop with these three.  See the links below for more corporations to boycott.

Questions and Answers

Are you advocating a boycott of everything American?
NO! We support travel and cultural exchanges. We also urge you to support US businesses (especially small ones) that support peaceful solutions. www.livingeconomies.org lists US companies that advocate a sustainable future.

Aren't Esso stations locally owned?
Yes, but a portion of the station's profits still goes to the parent company (Exxon Mobil in the US). We hope that the franchise owners will consider their choices for business partnerships more carefully in the future. Where should I buy my gasoline? No gas company is perfect. We just think Esso is the worst. You might want to consider supporting Canadian companies (PetroCanada, Husky, Mohawk) that are less likely to support US military adventures. Or better yet, use alternative transportation.

What are you asking for?
We are asking that US corporations refuse contracts for work in Iraq, and work with the US military, until US forces withdraw from Iraq and allow the Iraqi people self-determination. We are also asking that these corporations discontinue donations to the U.S. Republican party until George W. Bush resigns and the party publicly repudiates the principles in the "Project for a New American Century" (http://www.newamericancentury.org). In the case of G.E. we are also asking that they immediately discontinue contracts with landmine manufacturers.
